AICE Media Studies AS Level: Kevin P

     The house style of a magazine refers to the placement of pictures and text while paying close attention to its size, color and capitalization. This sets the theme for the rest of the magazine as it sets the tone using the color palette selected and then the placement of the stories.       In our AICE Media class, we reviewed two magazines, Town and Country and Car and Driver. We then analyzed their house style and had a discussion on their respective styles. Car and Driver remains consistent with its logo placement and usually places the vehicles featured at a high elevation, as a result, readers can expect this consistent style as new vehicles are then focused on.       For my magazine, I want to utilize the color palette I selected and enhance it with the sunset, sunrise, beach photos I will take. Alongside these pictures, I will use a script font that encompasses the relaxing feel I want to apply to my magazine.   ...

       As highschool students, rest is oftentimes an option. Each week is filled with homework, studying, and worrying about how the grades you get now will affect your college chances. During the pandemic however, in quarantine, isolated and alone in our homes, we had time. The shift to virtual school also left teenagers with more time on their hands than they have had in a while. The absence of having nothing to do, and the procrastination when we did, brought stress to us all.  For about the last two years, I have undergone a self revelation and have become at peace with myself– it probably would not have happened if it were not for quarantine. Prior to being isolated from everyone and stuck in my room each day, I was a stressed individual each day even if it were not school related.   Over the Shoulder Shot  Mom forky and her son forky jr are walking in the park as seen in this over the shoulder shot taken next to the creepy forky which continues to stalk them–possibly waiting for their attack.  POV Shot       In the final scene of this short story, the creepy forky who had been lurking in the shadows in previous scenes finally makes his on screen appearance striking Mom forky as forky jr watches, not being able to do anything.   

Characters:  Mom forky  Forky jr Creepy forky  Settings:  Home  Hospital  Park Camera Shots Establishing Shot  In the picture below the setting is established as the viewer can see the Hospital in which a creepy forky is hiding in, the Home in which Mom forky is relaxing, and the park behind her. All three of these locations will prove important settings in the story.    Close Up  Mom forky can be seen residing in her home.  Two Shot  Mom forky and her son forky jr being born at the local Hospital which is a short distance away from her home as seen in the background.  Mid Shot Mom forky and her son forky jr can be seen from a mid shot back home. In the background, the creepy forky can be seen once again hanging over their heads.

               When I began thinking about my magazine, I had an idea on what topic to do, but that soon changed as I said in a previous blog detailing my final decision. After being content and staying with the topic of stress and mental health alongside the spreads of music and color, I realized I needed to figure out who my target  audience is exactly.      Stress is a feeling that can occur for anyone and anywhere, regardless of age and regardless of location. Stress can  also result for a multitude of reasons including educational and personal stressors. With this being something everyone can experience, it is harder to choose a specific audience.      However, after I spent time thinking I came to the conclusion of teenagers and young adults, specifically the age range of 13-21.      With every magazine spread, images are involved, but of course, research needs to be done prior in order to analyze what will fit the spread in terms of its focus. Below, I have attached multiple images that I will be using as inspiration when I attempt to photograph, or design my images for my magazine on stress and mental health. 

      In the advertisement illustrated  above, a woman is lying on the floor next to a males dress shoe, without clothes, covering her breasts. The text above her reads "Keep her where she belongs..."      The purpose of this advertisement is to depict how men should control women during the 1950's and to sell the shoe illustrated.  Coinciding  its purpose, the advertisement is targeting men, particularly those married.  The stereotype at the time was that women should be kept in place, inside their home being a housewife. Lying next to the shoe, it can be implied that  men were supposed to use force to keep women at their feet, fitting the gender superiority of the mid 1900's.       To further understand how the purpose of this advertisement can be  taken , the eyes of the woman draw the viewer to the shoe, leading to the depiction of how a woman at the time should be at the toes of a man.
